Russian businessman Umar Kremlev helped pay hundreds of thousands of dollars toward celebrations for Donald Trump Jr. and Bettina Trump in the Bahamas, according to a ProPublica investigation.

ProPublica reported that Kremlev paid to rent one of the private islands used for the reception and guest accommodations and covered other expenses, including a large fireworks display. The investigation was based on financial records and interviews with three people familiar with the events.

Trump Jr. and his wife have not disputed Kremlev's involvement. The couple described Kremlev as a 'dear friend' who hosted two nights of celebrations after their wedding and characterized it as an extraordinarily generous wedding gift.

The distinction matters: the couple says their actual marriage ceremony was a small, family-only event held before the larger celebrations. Kremlev attended the festivities afterward.

Who is Umar Kremlev?

Kremlev is president of the International Boxing Association and has documented ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin. In April 2026, Putin personally awarded Kremlev Russia's Order of Friendship.

The boxing association Kremlev leads also previously received major financial backing from Gazprom, the Russian state-controlled energy company, which became the organization's general partner in 2021.
